The Byzantine Empire was created in 284 AD because the emperor Diocletian, decided it would be best if Rome was split in half. The Western Empire decided it was going to be called New Roma, and the Eastern Half: The Byzantine Empire.

While the Byzantine Empire quickly grew, the Western half slowly collapsed. The first of many emperors for the Byzantine Empire was Constantine. Constantinople (Presently Istanbul) was the new capital for the Byzantine Empire.
